Name of Activity: Scavenger Hunt

Purpose of Activity: To show students that the adults in their school life consider being fit important and are involved in a variety of activities outside of school.

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials Needed: Scavenger Hunt Sheet (will need to make this up based on the information below).

Description of Idea

Students are given a Scavenger Hunt sheet that has a certain number of listed activities. My sheet had 14. On each activity is a blank line for the name of the staff member that the students must find.

Examples:

1. ____________ rides 75 miles a week on a bike.
2. ____________ gets up a 4:30 a.m. to do yoga.

Students are instructed to be courteous and respectful and to not interrupt teachers or classes. Students have a certain amount of time to complete the hunt.

To discourage cheating, I made 4 different versions of the hunt with different activities on each version. Teachers/staff were told which numbered question they were on each version. If all participating staff gave 4 activities, each could be the same number on all four versions (e.g., Ms. Jones is No. 1 on all 4 versions even thought they were 4 different activities.)

Assessment Ideas:

Follow up activity with a questionnaire/discussion/reflection about what the students thought of the activities that the staff did, why they think the staff participate in the activities, what they can do to make time to keep active and fit outside of school.

I really love this idea of you helping us with things to do that are really exciting and that you will not get bored of. Then this is a good way of keeping students out of trouble!!;))
