Name of Activity: Aladdin and Princess Jasmine's Magic Carpet Ride

Suggested Grade Level: 1-3

Materials Needed: 1 mini-parachute or blanket for each group (magic carpet); 1 bucket or hula hoop for each group (jewel collection case); colored fuzz balls or beanbags (jewels)

Description of Idea

Spread out numerous colored beanbags or colored fuzz balls throughout the far end of the activity area. The beanbags or fuzzballs represent jewels. Divide class into groups of 3-4 students. Try to put students that are approximately the same size together. One student from each group is chosen to be Aladdin or Princess Jasmine first. That student sits in the middle of the parachute and hold onto the handles. The other students in the group are genies. They hold onto the front of the parachute.

On "go" signal, genies drag Jasmine/Aladdin to where the jewels are. Jasmine/Aladdin grabs one jewel. Then, the genies drag Aladdin/Jasmine back to their jewel case. After placing the jewel in their team's jewel case, Jasmine/Aladdin becomes a genie and one of the genies becomes the new Jasmine/Aladdin. Play for a short time and count up the genies if you wish but don't make a big deal of it.

This sounds like fun, but also sounds like it could damage the small parachutes? Anyone had that problem?
