Position Name/Title: Adapted Physical Education Teacher
Grade Level of Opening: Alternative School serving ages 5-21

Job Description & Information:
Seeking a motivated, caring individual to be the Adapted Physical Education Teacher for Laradon’s Alternative School. Charged with developing and implementing a diversified program of physical education activities designed to improve athletic skills, motor coordination, knowledge and use of games and equipment, this position allows you to apply your knowledge, skills and abilities working with all staff and students within the Laradon Alternative School.
Duties include:
• Assess students’ current skill level.
• Prepares lesson plans that correlate to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and facilitates ongoing participation in activities that foster student development (i.e., teamwork, cooperation, social skills and competition).
• Assists student’s ability to participate in physical education curriculum.
• Writes triennial evaluations, IEP goals, performance summaries and lesson plans in accordance with the functional abilities of the assigned students and the physical education curriculum.
• Records student progress and produce written quarterly reports on IEP goals.
• Consults with teachers, parents and students advising on techniques and activities that may be used to enhance a student’s physical abilities.
• Directs Teacher’s Assistants for the purpose of providing an effective physical education program that addresses student specific needs.
• Obtains and maintains materials, equipment and supplies used in adapted physical education program.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, current Colorado teaching certification, has or willing to get Certified Colorado Special Olympic coach certification, Colorado Adapted Physical Education certification desired, one year experience working with students with special needs and physical requirements include ability to utilize a variety of physical education equipment; ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and physical condition sufficient to enable walking; standing; sitting; using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; vision including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus; speak to convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments and/or directions.
