St. Catherine’s seeks a Physical Education Teacher/ Department Chair for the 2013-14 school year.

St. Catherine’s School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 and enrolling 952 girls in grades JK-12. Located on a 16-acre campus in the western part of the city, St. Catherine’s core values include pursuing academic excellence, building character, nurturing spiritual growth, celebrating individuals and building community.

Job Description:
St. Catherine’s School is seeking a Physical Education Teacher/ Department Chair to lead our Physical Education and Health department, teach Physical Education, Health education and coach. Applicants should have a strong philosophy of teaching the whole child, including the cognitive, physical, and affective domains in each lesson. The program seeks a teacher to incorporate new trends in Physical Education, 21st century learning, and integration of technology using a variety of teaching methods such a cooperative/ project adventure based activities, competitive and recreational activities, student directed learning, as well as a variety of fitness related activities. Successful candidates will collaborate with students, faculty and parents to help build a healthy community with a lifelong love and appreciation for physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

Responsibilities Include:
Department Leadership
Mentoring of Faculty
Support for Scheduling and Program Development


Requirements:
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in Health and Physical Education or a related field. Teaching experience at the Lower, Middle and Upper School levels, teaching experience in Health education and successful coaching experience are required. We are seeking candidates with leadership experience and involvement in professional development. Interest in online learning is encouraged.
