Title of Bulletin Board: How I exercised over the summer

Description:

This bulletin board was made by the students in grades PK - 1st. It is a way to reinforce staying active and healthy when not at school. The students drew a picture of how they exercised their bodies during the summer. We discuss exercising the mind also, but explain we are looking for an activity that helped their heart stay strong. Once all the worksheets were completed they were hung in the main hallway of the school. As the students shared their pictures with their classmates it helped other students to learn new activities, and also learn how their classmates stayed active. I like this bulletin board since it was made by the students. Parents, faculty and visitors to the school see the pictures displayed in a very public space and see our commitment to being active.

I did a similar one with the teachers. I emailed the entire staff to send me a picture of them being active over the summer. I posted them on the gym "Activity Board". The students like seeing their teachers in a different way and it teaches them that being active is a healthy lifestyle for everyone.

I did this last year and the school loved it. My co-workers and parents loved walking by and checking out the pictures and spelling of the kindergarteners and first graders. I am planning to do this this year.
