Title of Bulletin Board: What Are You Actually Smoking?

Materials: Backing paper, scissors, construction paper, cotton balls (smoke), paper towel roll (cigarette), stapler, tape, and an Ellison letter punch

Description:

This bulletin board, entitled “What Are You Actually Smoking”, supplements my health unit on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs. Essentially, the bulletin board describes some of the harmful and bizarre chemicals found inside of a cigarette. A paper listing all the chemicals, ranging from formaldehyde to arsenic, can be found on the fact sheet posted near the center of the board. Each chemical listed on the fact sheet is represented by a picture on the bulletin board. The students were fascinated after they discovered what chemicals were actually inside of a cigarette. During the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs unit, I referenced the bulletin board several times and the board seemed to help reinforce the information presented in the unit. The students seemed to really enjoy the bulletin board and hopefully it will positively influence their decisions regarding cigarettes.
