Title of Bulletin Board: Health and Fitness Trivia Time

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Target heart rate chart, the new Food Pyramid, ideas for exercise sheet, FIT sheet, trivia questions for 1-2 & 3-4

Description:

To compliment our fitness unit, I've developed a health and fitness trivia board. The board contains information sheets about target heart rate, the FIT (frequency, intensity, & time) concept, ideas for exercise at home, and the new food pyramid. We touch on each of these topics during physical education throughout the school year, but much more in depth during our fitness unit. Scattered around the information sheets are over 70 trivia questions for 3-4 grade students, and over 30 trivia questions for 1-2 grade students. The questions are a great way to check for student's knowledge and understanding of fitness terms, health concepts and principles. The first day of our fitness unit I will spend a few minutes talking about the board and reviewing the information. Each day at the end of class when the students are getting their drinks and lining up for their classroom teacher in the hallway, they will answer 3-5 questions before they get in line. Most days I will read through the questions and quiz the group. Students really enjoy the challenge, and I will often see them stopping at the board and trying out some questions on their own. Please email me if you would like a copy of the trivia questions or information sheets. (kmcmahon@fmschools.org)
