Title of Bulletin Board: Walk to School Event

Category: Integration

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Sneaker coloring sheets, pedometer

Description:

In the spirit of collaboration at our school the PE, art, music, and STEM teachers planned a fun walk to school event to commemorate International walk to school day. The event actually began the week prior. In art class the students each decorated their own "ticket to walk" sneaker to utilize as there ticket in to the gymnasium the day of the walk. The students did a great job on the artwork focusing on contrasting colors which was utilized later on in the bulletin board. In music the children were enlightened with a lesson on "tempo". They learned new vocabulary words that signified the different speeds of music that could be correlated to the different speeds of walking/jogging. The STEM portion of the event had children set up with a pedometer to track the overall mileage clocked during the walk. We took our overall miles walked and discovered that it was equivalent to walking from our school to the Athens, Greece.

Additional Information:

The board highlights the student artwork, the mileage they walked as a school, and the music/movement vocabulary words they learned in music class. We also highlighted some great fun fact on Athens Greece along with some corresponding pictures.
