PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Building Happy, Active Kids in PE

Category: Promoting PE

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Black bulletin board paper, construction paper, scissors, and a small circle to trace (sports equipment if you choose to do the display)

Description:

The board was made by putting black bulletin board paper up. Then I traced small circles on rectangle and square shape construction paper to create a paper lego. The paper legos were then placed around the border of the board. The lego man and woman were drawn and placed on the sides of the board. The wording was made on microsoft word and cut out and placed on red construction paper to look like the lego logo. The block cut outs have equipment listed on them (also made in microsoft word with squares) such as jump ropes, hula hoops, rubber animals, scooters, parachute activities, beanbags, and pool noodles. If you have a table available you can place all equipment in front of board with lego labels and legos placed all around.

This board was made to promote PE. Sometimes people get a general idea about PE and think they do not learn anything. However, with this board it not only explains that we are building kids to be active and happy but also what exactly we are using in PE to do that. We use so many things that kids do not have access to at their house. We are creating active kids in a fun away through unique equipment and activities rather than traditional exercise such as push-ups and sits ups. I believe it creates an inviting feeling to the audience to want to see how PE class is conducted. From the vibrant colors of the legos and the equipment it creates a very fun and exciting class. I also believe the kids enjoyed seeing the board being that most kids love building with legos and enjoyed see the lego man and woman. (I drew the lego people to look like myself and the other PE teacher here at our school).

Additional Information:

We need more positive talk about PE to help keep kids motivated about staying in shape. It is our responsibility to keep them active and excited about PE.
