PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: The Amazing Race

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Maps, Various colors of masking tape or thumb tacks

Description:

The purpose of this bulletin board is to get the students ready for the Fitnessgram’s mile run. Each grade will have their own map and all classes will start at Northport, NY. The objective of Pulaski’s Amazing Race is to get across the country from Northport, NY to a given destination such as San Diego, California. Each day in Physical Education class the students will participate in a warm-up exercise that will give them a certain amount of miles toward their destination for each student that completes it. The students will want to motivate their classmates to complete the warm up each day in an effort to “race across the United States”. A warm-up exercise could be something like jog around the perimeter of the gymnasium 5 times without stopping. For each student who does this the class will receive a certain number of miles toward their destination. Each class will have a different color piece that will be indicated by the key on each of the maps. There color piece will move across the map based on how many miles they earn during their Physical Education class.
