Title of Bulletin Board: St. James PE Superheroes

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: K-12

Materials: Paint, photos, bulletin board paper, lettering

Description:

St. James Superheroes

Superheroes are everywhere! They are so popular they are currently in movies, cartoons, books, stores, television, and superheros are even at St. James! What child doesn’t love imagining that they are a superhero and being able to dress the part.

This is a physical education bulletin board for St. James Episcopal Day School featuring “P.E. Superheroes”. I painted a Baton Rouge skyline over the river to create the buildings. Our school and church is part of that skyline. I created superhero capes with matching headbands and borrowed some costumes from the students. For the next two months students put on the capes and headbands in all of our P.E. activities during class times and I captured lots of “SUPERHEROES” doing amazing things! For example, top Presidential Fitness Award winners are featured exercising around the fitness track, doing their pull ups, sit ups, stretches, and runs. Featured also are our 3rd grade Baton Rouge boys championship baseball team. Superheroes also participated in cup stacking for the Guiness Book of World Records, using super jumbo cups and 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade superheroes were caught playing golf on our local golf course. Superheroes also went geocaching in historic downtown Baton Rouge, while others were spotted playing with basketballs, bean bags, and balloons. Other P.E. activities involving our superheroes were pogos , ponies , yoyos, and diablos. School –wide activities such as our “Whole Lotta Shakin Goin on” 50’s themed Carnival and “Daisy Day” for our head of school are also displayed on the board. Our board also features our superhero head of school, parish rector, and our P.E. teacher dressed as an LSU superhero!

This board is displayed in our cafeteria, where all of our students can view it every day. They love to see themselves on the board depicted as a superhero as well as show their parents and visitors.
