Title of Bulletin Board: Make A Happy Plate

Materials: Food group boarder, construction paper, scissors, glue, computer and printer, large pre cut letters

Description:

The bulletin board contains a large plate in the center that illustrates the correct portions of food groups for each meal that are color coordinated. Then there is a corresponding page for each of the food groups that explains how much to eat of it per day, what kinds of foods are in the group, and specific examples of foods.

I added an assessment to the bulletin board by creating an "exit slip" for the students where they had to write down 5 things they learned from the bulletin board. Here is an example of a response:

List 5 things that you learned from this bulletin board:
- Eat 8 oz. of seafood a week
- Milk, yogurt, and cheese are part of the dairy group
- Make 1/3 of your plate grains
- Beans and rice are grains
- Apples and oranges are examples of fruits
