Description:

This bulletin board was created by our Health & Wellness committee to promote our school wide "Outside Getting Exercise" program. Every month our H & W committee would draw names from a bucket and the winners would receive some type of prize that reinforces physical activity. Prizes include tickets to our town's indoor water park, free passes to the bowling lanes, ski mountains, adventure parks, etc. The number of names picked each month depends on the number of prizes we're able to obtain from our resources around town. This program is very simple, all a student has to do is submit one picture or drawing of him/herself doing ANY type of physical activity. The student's picture gets posted on the board and there names go in the bucket. They are eligible for the prizes for the entire school year or until their names gets picked. We want to give as many students as we can free access to their available resources, so once a student gets their names drawn then they can't get selected again but their picture stays on the board.

This program has been beneficial on many different levels. It's very easy for the students to get involved in and it also gives students an opportunity to get some recognition on their hobbies, as well as, promote physical activities that other students wouldn't have thought of getting involved in. We're also trying to encourage our students to get involved in a healthy lifestyle.

In order to get our students excited about the program our staff submitted pictures of themselves doing some kind of physical activity. Some of the pictures were taken recently and some are pictures of when they were in high school or younger. The students loved looking at the pictures and trying to guess who it was.
