Title of Bulletin Board: Go, Slow, & Whoa

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: All

Materials: Butcher paper and pictures of food items

Description:

Go-Food we can eat any time.
Slow-Food we can eat some of the time
Whoa-Food we can eat once in a while.

We have a class discussion about that we can eat all types of food. But we also discuss the nutritional value of the variety types of food. The students are given the task to go home and look through newspapers or magazines for pictures of food. When they bring the clippings to class, we discuss where on the bulletin board that food item should be placed.

I like this lesson idea. It teaches students about the nutritional value of familiar foods. They’re encouraged and involved about recognizing the value of making good food choices. Comprehension of this lesson is favorable because students hear, see, say, and do the task. Students can communicate what they’ve learned and what they’re doing with family members due to the take home portion of this lesson.
