Title of Bulletin Board: Twice a Day Keeps the Dentis Away

Category: Dental Care

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: 6'X4' rolled paper, border, punch out letters, pictures, behavior chart, labeled envelopes, sticky pads

Description:

Since I'm an elementary Physical Education teacher, I try to integrate health into some of my lessons. This is a bulletin board I created for the younger years (kindergarten - 2nd grade) to help teach them about good dental care.

The title of my bulletin board (depicted in the middle in large blue letters) is "Twice a Day Keeps the Dentist Away" and it addresses correct teeth brushing technique as well as the benefits of good dental health. I placed miniature tooth brushes in a circle with arrows and instructions telling students they should brush their teeth in circular motions. I also placed an egg timer on the board so that students can turn it and get an idea of how long they should be brushing their teeth (approx 2 minutes). I also included poster board material that encourages children to floss regularly as this is an important part of tooth brushing.

I also placed a diagram on the board so that students can start becoming familiar with parts of their teeth and how they are made up.

To make the board more personal, I included a "Who lost a tooth chart?" so students can write their names in any month where they loose a tooth (or teeth).

My board contains a nice red, white and blue color scheme which is aesthetically pleasing and contains age-appropriate information supporting the NCSCOS.
