Description:
This bulletin board is intended to give students ideas of how to stay active during the winter months in NYS without spending a great deal of money. The bulletin board addresses NASPE standards 3 and 6, as well as NYS standard 3. Once the child participates in any of the activites the board addresses all NYS and NASPE standards. The upper left is titled RCS which is our school community. On this side of the board I tried to post things the student can do in the school community. there is a list of 30 random ideas the students can do in their back yard, a flyer for the activities at the school pool, a flyer for the local swim team, and a flyer for all the other youth athletics in the community. Along the bottom there are four Power Point slides that read "The weather outside is frightful, but staying active is so delightful, and since we call New York home...Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!" The slides also have several pictures of children participating in activites outside and a picture of all the state parks in our area. There is also a picture of New York State that shows where all the state parks and ski resorts are. To the right of the board the theme is free activites that NYS offers. The upper right is a picture of a skier that is titled "I love NY Winter." Below that the white pice of paper describes some winter activites that can be done for free at State Parks. The list includes XC skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, and snow tubing. To the right of that is a list of lacal state parks and the types of activities you can do there. This list also includes ice fishing, ice skating, and snowmobiling. I found all this information on the state park website. Below the bule piece of paper is a folder with applications to the NYS 4th grade learn to ski program. By filling out the application students are able to receive 3 free lift tickets to participating ski resorts.
