Title of Bulletin Board: I Got Caught Being A Good Sport

Category: Character Education

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Paper Trophy Cut-Outs, Creative Fish Bowl, Spongebob

Description:

I Got Caught Being A Good Sport - This board was created to reinforce positive behaviors in class. Students try really hard to earn paper trophies and in the process they are practicing very positive habits. I notice that previous trophy winners continue to set good examples even weeks after they won. In the primary grades, K-2, I make sure each child wins at least one throughout the year. In the older grades, 3-5, they must be earned with higher standards...

Students are reminded that they don't win trophies for being good athletes, rather they win for always trying hard and going out of their way to help others. Students need to appreciate differences rather than judge them. Students that make people feel comfortable who may struggle are the ones who are deserving of the trophy.

I make sure sure I change the big fish bowl each month and then hang it up somewhere in the hallway or in the Gym. For my board, I cut out a Spongebob with a big fishing pole and he is trying to catch students. When a student wins, he or she gets a trophy with their name and date on it and also gets their name put inside the bowl.

I have gotten very positive feedback with this from parents.
