Description:

During the first few classes of each school year, our students in grades 5 and 6 are introduced to heart rate monitoring. Although our school does not have heart rate monitors, we still discuss and practice methods of finding a target heart rate. With the help of a target heart rate conversion poster, students are asked to find their resting heart rate and target heart rate. Once their target heart rate is determined, we will stop activities throughout the year and find if the students are within their target heart rate range or need to work harder. It serves as a great teaching/learning tool and I will continue to stress the importance of moderate to vigorous activity in order for students to reach their target heart rate!
