PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Every Color Every Day

Category: Nutrition

Suggested Grade Level: K-8

Materials: Bulletin Board, colored paper, magazine picture clippings, staples, and imagination!

Description:

My Bulletin Board shows a variety of healthy food choices in the “food rainbow.” It emphasizes the goal of eating every color of the rainbow every day! It also demonstrates the importance of balancing food and fun (exercise). A “1st Grade Daily Servings” chart is displayed on it as well, to show how much of each food pyramid category a first grader should eat daily. The objectives covered in this bulletin board included 4.01 (categorize foods into the appropriate groups of my Pyramid) and 4.02 (Identify a variety of foods that are healthy choices in each of the food groups). These objectives from the NC Healthful Living Standard Course of Study and Grade Level Competencies, were met by my bulletin board. Objective 4.01 can be seen on the bulletin board in the "1st grade daily serving sizes" chart and also on the example of the food guide pyramid located on the "balance of food and fun". Objective 4.02 is seen on in the display of the "food rainbow"! The purpose of this bulletin board is to inform students of different types of healthy foods, what food guide pyramid category they fall under, and how much of each category they should consume daily.
