Title of Bulletin Board: Let's Go Biking Safely

Category: Bicycle Safety

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Construction 1"styro insulation sheet (for bike), Laminate, Poster board (for person), Card stock paper (for signage), velcro dots

Description:

In trying to promote bike safety for Springtime and ALSO physical fitness, I created an interactive biker that is on the wall where the students line up when leaving class. There is a choice of 6 different helmets and shoes that can be changed out, using velcro dots to attach them. They can also change the items when they come in for lunch and love to do so. Ages K-6 enjoy the interaction. A helmet coloring page is also on the wall for them to take and color. Also, a bike safety pamphlet (being created by the H.S. computer class), will be passed out to all students to tie in with the theme.

Additional Information:

I obtained the images for the bike and the biker off the Internet (Google Images), then used an overhead to blow them up big enough to trace-I am NOT artistic!!! The styrofoam sheet is easy to draw on, color on-I used felt marker (paint can also be used but be careful with spray paint-it will melt the material), and easy to cut. It gives the project a 3-D look. I hung it by using a sewing needle to thread a piece of fishing line thru to tie off in a loop which then hangs from a "stick-up" plastic hook-it's all very light weight.
