Description:

Spring is here and children will be playing outside. I used the 3 main activities that children are involved in, swimming, biking and being outside in the sun to promote good health practices. I wanted to remind the children that activity is good but that they must also play it safe by wearing helmets, always swimming with a buddy, and using sunscreen. This will also be a friendly reminder for summertime fun.

I included wearing sunscreen because most kids don't think of sunscreen when they go outside. The damage done to children's skin by sunburn is what will affect them with skin cancer as adults.

I used pictures from old scholastic magazines and calendars about bike safety, and pictures I found with people swimming and having fun outside while wearing hats and sunglasses.

This bulletin board happens to be 8ft x 8ft so it is very noticeable. It becomes a wonderful teaching moment as teachers bring their classes past my "wall" on the way to the gym or cafeteria and stop to discuss my "safety actions". It can be sized for any size board.
