PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Climbing to New Heights in 2010

Category: Adventure Education

Suggested Grade Level: k-5

Materials: Butcher paper, diecut letters & numbers, pictures of students, hand-made cut-outs of climbing wall holds, snowman boarder

Description:

This bulletin board is used at the start of the new year each January. Throughout much of December, all students participate in a climbing wall unit. I take pictures of the students while they are doing various activities on the wall. This was created to showcase what the students have been doing as well as to let others know we are always working ("climbing") and challenging ourselves to improve our skills and fitness. The board was created with butcher paper as the background. (I use the color blue because that is the color of our climbing wall). A snowman boarder outlines the board as it is winter time in Wisconsin. Two inch paper strips are placed about a third of the way up the board to represent our safety line. I used brown construction paper to make various size hand and foot holds and then stapled them all over the blue background. The word, "Climbing" is placed upward in a diagonal line and each year I change the date to reflect the new year. Students love to see pictures of themselves!
