Title of Bulletin Board:
Lift Someone Up
Category:
Motivation
Suggested Grade Level:
3-12
Materials:
Cheerleaders, megaphones, yellow background, red border, 2" letters
Description:
I was reading the Tony Dungy book "Quiet Strength" and at the beginning of each chapter are quotes from famous/historical people. It seemed like the perfect way to inspire children to treat others with respect and kindess and encourage them to demonstrate good character. So, the focus of this bulletin board is motivational quotes from famous people the students will study in school or hear about through the media. Quotes will be changed during the year to highlight a variety of people and their positive comments. Since I had a focus, I needed some decoration. I found an animal cheerleader bulletin board set that would be perfect for this (and less time-consuming than making everything). The bright yellow background with red border attracts attention and brings color to the gym. I used a couple of cheerleaders that focused on "team" and megaphones to post on the board. On the megaphones I wrote other positive, encouraging words and phrases such as "Way to go", "Keep doing your best", etc. to demonstrate the variety of ways students can encourage each other. The quote I posted was by Booker T. Washington - "If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else."
