Description:
The students were required to create sports cards about themselves that highlighted their achievements. They were required to put their picture on the sports card and decorate around it with a collage of pictures of themselves doing the sport, or magazine cut outs of people participating in the sport. On the back of the card/paper, the students created a sports resume. Some the in the information that was included on the cards was: • Name • Biographical Information (Where they were born, Date of birth) • Teams they have been on • Sports accomplishments/Statistics • Any other interesting/pertinent information The object of this was for students to create sports cards that were authentic to their accomplishments. However, I understand that not all students have been part of an organized team. Therefore, I told the students that if they have never been part of a team, they were allowed to may make up the information about their accomplishments and statistics.
Additional Information:
Students picked a variety of sports to highlight including Horse Back Riding, Running, Martial Arts, Bowling, Football, Basketball, Base/Softball, swimming, soccer, Boy/Girl Scouts, Skateboarding, UFC..just to name a few. I was surprised at the amount of non -"traditional" sports that the students chose to highlight. This assignment / bulletin board was a great way to show others the plethora of sports/ activities that students enjoy that help them to maintain healthy active lifestyles (NYS Standard 3). It also highlighted the achievements of students which shows competency in NYS Standard 1. (Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health.)
