Title of Bulletin Board: Falling for Autumn Fun

Category: Seasons (Fall, Spring, etc.)

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: blue paper, green paper, leaves (I purchased these for about $3 at a Teacher's Store & laminated them), tree (made out of brown poster board), pictures of children playing different sports, targe

Description:

The board has a blue "sky" background and the bottom portion is green for "grass". I used leaf cut-outs for the border and added a couple to the tree. Place an almost leaf-bare tree on one side with a target attached to it (I made mine out of black construction paper). I placed pictures of children playing different fall sports (from a bulletin board set, but you could take pictures of the students or use clip-art) around the grass.

This board is simply a seasonal board to add the colors of the season to the classroom at the beginning of the year as well as give students several different ideas for sports they could be doing at this time of year. (You can do one for winter, spring and summer as well.) I always try to put up at least one sport we don't do in physical education (such as archery) to spark the students' interest and get them talking about a variety of activities they might do outside of class or could do outside of class.

Additional Information:

My students have also discussed the correct form for different sports while standing in line. For example, if you look at the picture, the boy holding the football is not holding it correctly (by the laces). My students noticed this - it was a great opportunity to reinforce correct form.
