City Wide Promotion for Family Fitness

The City Wide Promotion for Family Fitness is a one day program that allows each school within a district or city to showcase what students are learning and experiencing as a part of their schools physical education program. Because this event involves all the schools within a district it is an excellent opportunity to showcase the district wide status of physical education within a community.

Prior to the day of the event it is essential that all the participating schools meet to coordinate all the details (e.g. scheduling, promotion, facilities). It is imperative that an adequate facility be reserved in advance. It is recommended that the event take place at a location that is easily accessible to most in the community.

It is recommended that on the day of the event each participating school be given a table to place information about their physical education program. Pictures and videos are also a nice touch. Once the actual program begins each school will be given a predetermined amount of time to demonstrate an activity that was learned in physical education. If need be, consider having up to four groups demonstrate simultaneously. To avoid repetition in the demonstrations, it is recommended that all participating physical education teachers coordinate their activities with one another. At the conclusion of the student demonstrations, consider having activities available for those in attendance.
