Name of Best Practice: All School Health and Wellness Fair
Rationale/Purpose of Event: To invite local health and wellness professionals to the school for the purpose of providing students with additional information that is directly linked to curricular objectives in health, physical education and wellness.
Suggested Grade Level: K-5
Materials Needed: Audio visual equipment and other materials as required by presenters.
Preliminary work begins by locating and inviting local health professionals to come and speak with the children. The presenters are assigned a room and the students move from room to room with their classroom teacher. Physical education and music also have presenters or present themselves to allow teachers to maintain planning time. Presenters are asked to provide supplementary material that can be used as a way to follow-up with students. At Columbine Elementary School this event takes place during heart month and is met with great appreciation by teachers, parents, and students.
