Class Citizens of the Month

Beacause the horrific events of September 11th 2001 has evoked a united bond with our country, I decided to use a carry over approach to enrich and reward positive behaviors in a spirit of patriotism and citizenship.

After downloading an American flag from a clip art site, I posted all 34 of my classes on the bulletin board with a flag for each class. It was a four week program that depicts coloring three red stripes and the blue background around the stars. After each week, I would color in a stripe for the following behaviors:

At each class session, I took a class picture with a digital camera and then made a slide show on the school's computer. After the four week period, all the colors were posted and those who maintained the three stripes and blue background, earned citizen class of the month. The class photo was then placed next to their flag to show unity and citizenship. The slide show may be viewed with all the classes with the hope in next months project, they will join the other classes in total harmony and respect.
