Teacher: Christine Hoisington who teaches at Springville ES in Springville, NY. Christine Hoisington can be contacted at CAHpe@aol.com.
Name of Best Practice: Video Snapshots
Rationale/Purpose of Event: To reinforce lesson objectives by displaying snapshots of students performing various skills.
Suggested Grade Level: K-5
Materials Needed: Apple video player for Apple computer or Snappy software for the PC, color printer, and a laminator.
Begin by videotaping a 1-2 minute segment of specific skills and/or children's accomplishments. Through the use of the Apple video player or Snappy software, "freeze" specific frames within the segment to get the exact pose or action shot desired. Once a frame has been selected, it is ready to print. Once printed, label the picture with an appropriate caption and if possible laminate it. Teachers are encouraged to post the video snapshots near the gymnasium where teachers, students, administrators, and vistors are able to discover what students have been doing in physical education class. Additionally, the pictures may be used during "open house" nights, school board presentations, or other community events.
