Name of Best Practice: PE Word Wall

Rationale/Purpose of Event: To provide a visual display of all the words that are used in physical education throughout the year.

Suggested Grade Level: K-5

Materials Needed: Large blank wall, Cut out letters A-Z, Paper, and Markers.

The PE Word Wall is used to display all the words or terms used in physical education. The words can be related to a fitness concept, exercise, game, or sport just to name a few. The words are listed in alphabetical order beneath large letters (A-Z) that are cut out and placed at the top of the wall.

Teachers are encouraged to create a template on which the various words are written. For example, a cut out shape of a tennis shoe or basketball is a creative design to write the words upon. Once the words are written, they are then placed on the wall. In addition to reinforcing the words taught in class, PE Word Wall is also an excellent opportunity to promote physical education to parents, visitors, administrators, or other teachers.
