Title of Bulletin Board: Planet Catching

Category: Skill Themes

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Planets cut outs and tape for wall/balls of diff. sizes, poly spots, music

Description:

I was asked by the kindergarten teachers to integrate the planets in P.E. class. I placed cutouts from a learning store of the planets. Students will review the names of the planets and see the different sizes. Once we review the wall students then go to eight different planet stations, each labeled. Each station has a different size ball to toss and catch. Mars: table tennis ball, Mercury: spider ball, Venus: small gator skin ball, Earth: whiffle ball, Neptune: 6" playground ball, Uranus: large gator skin ball, Saturn: volleyball trainer, Jupiter: beach ball. Students go to each station, toss and catch for 30 seconds, skip through the galaxy of poly spot stars, and go to the next station for 30 seconds. Students will recognize, feel, and know what planets are the smallest to largest at the same time they realize which ball is easier/harder to catch.
