Title of Bulletin Board: A Recipe for a Successful Year

Category: Beginning of School

Suggested Grade Level: K-8

Materials: Construction paper, markers, scissors, rulers, wallpaper scraps, images from google.

Description:

"A Recipe for a Successful Year" is a bulletin board designed to get students thinking about being a good student and having a positive, productive year. The scene is a kitchen. It can be as simple or as detailed as the teacher wishes. For those who are artistic, the items in the kitchen may be drawn from scratch. For those who need some assistance, I'd suggest utilizing the "Google - images" website. The following is a list of characteristics that have been identified as those of " a good student": attend school, eat healthy foods, get 8-10 hours of sleep, be physically active for at least 30 minutes per day and have a positive attitude. I've placed these attributes at appropriate places around my kitchen. Notice the clock - its the face of the little train that could - its placed in the kitchen to symbolize a positive attitude. On the cabinet doors, I've listed additional characteristics: "In class - listen, be prepared, work hard, and participate." On the food cans appear the words, "Do Your Best, be Good, be Polite, be Happy”. As a final touch, I've written the keys words in my school district's "Statement of Expectations" on the cereal boxes. They are “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Act with Courage, and Act with Kindness.”

This is a really cute and creative bulletin board. I love it. I may try something like this but I am not an artist-you did such nice work, congratulations.
