PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Jump for the Stars

Category: Awards/Hall of Fame

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Large Cut Out Letters for "Jump for the Stars", sentence strips for labeling, oversized star made out of fabric, diecut stars

Description:

In the middle of the wall is "Jump for the Stars" and the large fabric star. On sentence strips to the side of these are the questions: Kindergarten-Can you jump rope 5 times or more?, First Grade-Can you jump rope 10 times or more? Each first grade teacher's name is printed on a colorful sentence strip. As students learn to jump rope, a star is put up with their name on it under their teacher's name for all to see. Since there are usually fewer stars for kindergarteners I place their stars under "Kindergarten". The students know that only I can count their jumps and the jumps must be continuous without the jumping rope stopping. We talk about how students learn to jump rope at different times and to not get upset if they haven't learned yet, but that we can be happy for those that can. It usually motivates the nonjump ropers to practice more. Students are given the opportunity to "jump for the stars" at the end of each class period.

Additional Information:

You may want to write the number of jumps on the outside of the star and as they improve you cross that number out and write the higher number. Students could also earn a shining star(add star stickers), by reaching a higher goal (50-100).
