PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Mileage Club

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: border, background paper, staples, pictures, and cut-outs of feet

Description:

The board was created as a way to showcase the students who are in the recess Mileage Club. It was also created as a way to show those students thier progress during their time while participating in the club. Each student autographed a foot and I also placed a small picture of the student on individual feet. Each square in the graph represented a total of 1 mile traveled, or the equivalent of 7 walking/jogging/running laps around the soccer field on our pre-designed course. The final purpose of this graph was to motivate other students to join the club by showing just how fun the club can be if they choose to join. I included pictures of students participaing in the club and student created papers of their drawings (intrepretations) of what they think the club is all about.

Additional Information:

Since the inception of the Mileage Club at our school, within the past two years I have had over 200 members join the club. Students may choose to do the Mileage Club 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week during thier recess time at school.

I am also looking to implement this idea into my school. Do you recommend any good resources that help guide starting a walking club? Do you offer incentives? Do you need a budget?
Thanks for any input!
