Materials: Fire truck border, fire safety information, sheets colored by students

Description:

We do a lesson on fire safety during the month of October. The kids are taught about fire safety, and practice such things as "crawling low under smoke" (they crawl under a chair or table), and "stop, drop & roll" (they roll on a mat) if they catch on fire. We also talk about the importance of (1) having and practicing an escape plan with their family, (2) firefighters are our friends, (3) never to play with matches, and other important concepts. Students are given fire safety color sheets. We choose a few to add to the bulletin board. (Different students are chosen for each bulletin board of the year, since we have so many students.) Students enjoy seeing their work displayed, and also remember the important lessons they have learned!
