Title of Bulletin Board: Boiling Point

Category: Behavior Incentives

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Poster board/bulletin board, glue, red popsicle sticks, velcro, orange felt, black marker, red marker, orange paper, white paper, scissors

Description:

This bulletin board is to be used as a class behavior motivation tool. Each class has a thermometer that has 50 'degrees' on it. The class gains 'degrees' by (1) having good behavior as a class (the entire class for the entire period), (2) the entire class turning work in on time, and (3) the entire class performing the days' activities well. After the class gains 10 'degrees' they get to choose a warm up activity for the next class period. When the class gains 50 'degrees' they get to help plan out an entire class period. At that time all of their Popsicle sticks (attached with Velcro) are taken down and a little fire ball (made of felt) is attached to the side of their class thermometer. At the end of the year, the class with the most fireballs and/or degrees wins a special prize or reward (this is up to the specific teacher) One idea is a cup with all student names engraved on it and displayed in the gym next year.

Additional Information:

This an idea for a motivational tool taken from my Elementary Methods Class in Health and Exercise Science (Teaching) at the College of New Jersey.

This would be great in a regular classroom and use it for homework assignments or good behavior! Love this idea
