PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Go for the gold in Physical Education

Category: Olympics

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Paper, hula hoops, tape, posters of flags

Description:

During Physical Education each class was issued a country and for three weeks they competed in Olympic games. The medal count was calculated daily and pictured is the final count. The right side has the explanation of the six modified games played in class as well as two students had grandparents compete in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. One placed 12th overall the other earned a silver medal. Also, my PE office door is gift wrapped as a giant American flag. The other bulletin board displays the Olympic Rings with color and character explanations.
Simultaneously, the library classes followed the Socchi Olympics by reading then completing research including bar graphs of medal results and other facts. In addition, regular education teacher either completed in class assignments or issued homework assignments with an Olympic theme.
The purpose of the Olympic theme was to create a positive school morale, spark an interest, increase awareness of the Olympics while experiencing the 2014 Olympics by competing, watching, reading, and using the information for school wide projects. This was a K-6 project.
