PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Try Them!

Category: Integration

Suggested Grade Level: k-2

Materials: Red boarder, Blue bulletin board paper, white letters, sport equipment cut outs, A document camera, internet or picture of the cat and the hat, markers

Description:

The board has a blue background, red boarder and white letters. The letters read "Try them, try them, and you may! Try them and you may, I say." -Dr.Seuss. The quote was taken from the book "Green Eggs and Ham." Also there are sports equipment such as a soccer ball, football, baseball, a tennis racket, a whistle, and a #1 Finger. Also there is a hand drawn Cat in the hat picture. (I used a document camera and a picture from Google images and projected it on the wall and traced, colored, and cut him out.) The board was built to encourage students to try new sports. Due to the ever growing rate of obesity, students need to be encouraged and introduced to new sports to keep them active and healthy. This is not limiting them to only the ones on the board. I believe it is important to disguise exercise in a fun and exciting way through a variety of sports. However, I am aware that a healthy diet is also tied in with exercise, in which my students are aware.I believe this is a catchy phrase from a familiar book that my students can relate to and possibly influence their choice in life, interest in exercise and the great Dr. Seuss!
