Title of Bulletin Board: Components of Fitness

Category: Fitness

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Materials: pictures of kids being active in different sports or everyday activities, Word or someway to get the definitions of components of exercise/fitness on the board.

Description:

I described the components of fitness (strength, flexibility and endurance) and gave an example of each. I illustrated those examples with pictures of kids doing specific exercises. You can also use pictures of your own students doing activities or pictures gathered using another source (computer, print material, etc.) Along with the components of fitness I added the two types of exercise, aerobic and anaerobic, and gave examples of each. I used a black background and bold, bright colors to really make the information pop on the board.

The five components of fitness are all evaluated in the fitness testing done at all age levels. If you connect it with that as well, students will be able to understand the value of doing each individual activity (push-ups, curl-ups, etc) and what that specific actitivy is working on and showing. It might add creadibility to fitness testing, and give "push-ups" a meaning.

There are five components of fitness: Cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, musculare strength, flexibility, and body composition. You would be able to be more specific with the activities if they were broken down, especially at the middle school level.
