Title of Bulletin Board: What Makes You a Star?

Category: Beginning of School

Suggested Grade Level: k-5

Materials: Paper, stapler, bulletin board borders

Description:

On the first day of classes I sent home a letter to parents letting them know about some of the expectations I have as well as a few of the activities that the kids will be participating in. I also like to get the students thinking about all of the activities that they already participate in and one that they believe that they are the best at. Attached to the letter is another paper with the outline of a star. The students are instucted to think of the one activity that they really shine at and design their star to represent that activity. I tell them that they can draw the activity, cut out pictures and glue them on, or put a picture of themself on the star particpating in that activity. They cut them out and return them during their next class. I put a few on the bulletin board and the rest on the walls of the gym.

I forgot to mention that the chart in the center of the board is a sneaker chart that I keep for all classes. A class gets a sticker each week that everyone is wearing their sneakers. The first class to 10 gets and extra PE class or recess.
