PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Waldo Word Board

Category: Integration

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Materials: Large Waldo Illustration, Construction Paper, White Paper

Description:

A 2nd Grade class is using a Where's Waldo theme to find the word of the week and this bulletin board is outside the classroom. Every week a hint is written next to the Waldo illustration on what the word is and it's up to the kids in the class to seek it out. The hints may say something like, "The word ends in an 'ing' and has 'nn' in the middle of it" and the word of the week is running.

When I discovered this bulletin board, I started putting PE words that we've been discussing and working on in class on it. Words such as, running, skipping, catching, throwing, sliding, etc. When students saw some PE words up there then they were trying hard to think of other PE words that weren't up there yet. This board has served as a great, fun way to integrate PE into other areas of education and also to reinforce some of the units we've been discussing.
