Title of Bulletin Board: Be A Good Sport

Category: Sportsmanship

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Construction paper

Description:

This bulletin board was created to remind students of how to show good sportsmanship. I drew pictures of kids, some wearing sport uniforms and others in street clothes. Each is "saying" something to suggest how to show good sportsmanship. The title reads, "These kids know about good sports conduct. Follow their advice when you play games and sports!"

The suggestions are:

-"I won't call other players bad names. If I can't say something positive to them, I won't make any comment."
-"Hey, have some fun and stop worrying about the score!"
-"I'll encourage other people and will help them with skills instead of criticizing them."
-"If my team loses, I won't blame my teammates for the loss."
-"I'll play by the rules. Ya know, like, don't cheat."
-"I won't be a ball hog. I'll let other players have a turn."
-"I won't make fun of other people's abilities."
-"I'll accept the calls of the referee, even if I don't agree."
-"If my team wins, I won't brag. It's no fun to be reminded of losing."
-"I'll play safely and I'll try not to hurt any other players."

I got excited when I saw this poster. Thank you Nancy Wright. I do not have a classroom as yet, but it will happen soon. I see this poster as a way to model correct behavior to my students. I can add good examples of sports like behavior that I have seen around campus and possibly add tally marks to the bottom of the picture every time a student or I find an example being repeated. The comic book format will draw in students!
