Title of Bulletin Board: ABC's of Physical Education

Category: Promoting PE

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: Boarder, printed clipart, die cut letters, and paper.

Description:

The bulletin board has the title, "ABC's of Physical Education." Under that is says, "Which letters are you?" Around the title and question is each letter of the alphabet with a photo of an activity that starts with that letter. This board was built to show children that there are a variety of activities that one can try and participate in. It implies that you can pick more that one.

The other purpose behind this was for the younger kids to see the alphabet around that school, while the older kids would make connections of other activities not pictured and what letter they would go under. Here is what is pictured by each letter: archery, bowling, cheerleading, diving, equestrian, football, gymnastics, hockey, inline skating, jogging, karate, lacrosse, mountain biking, netball, orienteering, ping pong, quadrille, rugby, swimming, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, water skiing, x-games/xtreme skateboarding, yard games, and zumba.

Many of these can be changed to fit in with activities that are part of your curriculum. This board ties in with our standard that students know and participate in a variety of activities.

Additional Information:

Instead of using printed photos, see if the art teacher/health teacher would let the kids draw/color what types of things they do for exercise. Then post those pictures on the board. As a reward let a child write an activity on the board or sign their name by one they like.
