Title of Bulletin Board: Commit to Being Fit

Category: Physical Activities

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Materials: border, background paper, construction paper, lettering, computer paper

Description:

The bulletin board’s title is “Commit to Being Fit.” There are two sides to the board. The left side shows activities that are physically active (the activities depicted include surfing, basketball, and cheer leading). The right side shows activities that are physically inactive (the activities depicted include playing video games, watching television, and listening to music). There is also a person in the middle who is reading. There is a question mark because although many people would think reading is a healthy thing to do, it does not help us get our body in shape; it is good, however, for our mental health (there is a caption underneath the picture describing this). There are also captions underneath the physically active and physically inactive categories describing the benefits and consequences. The benefits of being physically active include: stronger bones and muscles, decreased risk of diseases, more energy and a better mood, and helps keep you at a healthy weight. The consequences of being physically inactive include: weaker bones and muscles, increased risk of diseases, decreased energy, and being at risk of becoming overweight. This bulletin board was built as a requirement for my Health class and it's purpose was to teach any child in the second grade level to know the difference between physical activity and physical inactivity.

I feel that this board is putting a bad name on reading in calling it being physically inactive. I think that the board is not presented in a eye catching manner. and I just have a thumbs down idea about this board.
