PEC: Bulletin Boards for Physical Education

Title of Bulletin Board: Benefits of Physical Activity

Category: Health

Suggested Grade Level: k-8

Materials: Die Cut Letters, Clip-art cuts-outs, Border, Laminating Machine, Velcro, Pencil

Description:

I created a lesson about the Benefits of Physical Activity and I thought it would be much more appealing if I added a corresponding bulletin board. The bulletin board has many benefits listed, but what separates this board is its interactive capabilities. Each fact paper can be lifted up and under the fact is a more detailed explanation of the benefit listed on top. The papers are Velcroed together so that it is easily attainable to open the paper with no damage. Also, the board includes a paper in the middle that asks the students to write physical activities they do on a regular basis. A pencil is also velcroed to the board for the students to use when writing in their responses. The purpose of the board is to visually aid my lesson and show the students the importance of physical activity and the many benefits it entails.

Board Information

Reduce Stress

Regular exercise can increase self-confidence and lower the symptoms associated with mild depression and anxiety. This can ease your stress levels and give you a sense of command over your body and your life.

Control Weight

Both diet and physical activity play a critical role in controlling your weight. You lose weight when the calories you burn, including those burned during physical activity, are more than the calories you eat or drink.

Do Better in School

Studies have found participation in physical activity increases adolescents’ self-esteem and reduces anxiety and stress. Through its effects on mental health, physical activity may help increase students’ capacity for learning.

Disease Prevention

Your immune system can become stronger with regular physical activity.

Strengthen Your Heart

Physical activity can strengthen your heart and help it pump blood and deliver oxygen to your body. It lowers your blood pressure and your resting heart rate.

Stronger Body

Physical activity leads to stronger bones, muscles, joints and ligaments. Having a stronger body will reduce the chances of injuring yourself during daily living.

Overall Better Health!
