Description:

I did this idea in February for Healthy Heart Month. All school year I have been talking to my K-2 students about making our hearts happy by exercising and making healthy food choices. I created a big empty heart on the bulletin board in the gym. Each day in the month of February, students had opportunities to earn a "die cut" heart to hang in the big heart. I had four criteria for earning hearts:1)Healthy snacks 2)Outside recess time 3)PE 4)Ten minutes walks on the playground 5) participating in movement songs taught in gym....I made each teacher a copy of our favorite movements songs so they could do them in the classrooms.
As the students earned hearts, they brought them to the gym during their PE time. We hung them in our big empty heart, FILLING OUR HEART WITH HAPPINESS. The students were so excited coming to the gym to see how we were doing on filling our big heart with happiness.
